Raimon Panikkar (Barcelona, 1918 – Tavertet, 2010), from an Indian and Hindu father and a Catalan and Christian mother, is one of the most lucid voices of contemporary thought for his contributions to the intercultural and interreligious dialogue.
He was a doctor in philosophy, in science and in theology, and practised as a professor in several universities in Europe, India and the United States. In 1946 he was ordained Catholic priest.
He stepped on India for the first time in 1954: «I left as a Christian, I discovered myself as a Hindu and I return as a Buddhist, without ever ceasing to be a Christian», he will explain as a summary of his vital and religious journey. In the 80s he settled in Tavertet, where he promoted the Vivarium Fundation (nowadays Vivarium Raimon Panikkar Fundation).
Panikkar’s work has been studied by forty doctoral thesis and by many international monographic cogresses.
